About St Agnes Heritage Coast

Located in Cornwall on the southwestern coast of England, the St Agnes Heritage Coast stretches approximately 8 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, from Porthtowan in the south to Trevellas Porth in the north. This protected coastline features dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and abundant wildlife typical of Cornwall's mineral-rich landscape. Its designation as part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) highlights its scenic and ecological importance. Historically, St Agnes was a center of tin and copper mining, with remnants of the industrial era visible in cliffside engine houses and abandoned mines that are part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. The coastal path that runs here offers walkers striking sea views alongside these historic industrial structures and wildflower-rich heathland. Outdoor recreation includes hiking along the South West Coast Path, birdwatching at the cliffs and wetlands, and exploring rock pools and beaches such as Trevaunance Cove. The Heritage Coast attracts visitors for its natural beauty, rich geology, and connection to Cornwall's cultural past. Its relatively moderate climate and access to both rugged landscapes and coastal amenities make it inviting year-round, with spring and summer offering vibrant wildflowers and opportunities for marine wildlife spotting including seals and seabirds. The combination of history, ecology, and outdoor adventure ensures the St Agnes Heritage Coast is a compelling destination for both local explorers and international visitors.
